August 2020 - Hufflehouse is Born
In August 2020, we bought a house we lovingly call Hufflehouse due to its yellow and black colors, which represent our Hufflepuff roots. After painting and decorating, we moved into the house in October. We knew from day one that we wanted to add a little free library out front. With Dr. Crisp Elementary right across the street, we knew the kids would love it.
November 28, 2020 - The First Library
We started with a traditional Little Free Library cottage library. This library would only house school-age books targeted at the elementary school level.
October 31, 2021 - A Bigger Library
It was easy to see that the smaller library wasn't enough for the amount of activity we were getting. Students walking home, parents picking up kids, and passersby were stopping by for books on a regular basis. We needed to upgrade. So we started with a bedroom cabinet we prepped to be used outside. Our goal was to launch the new library with our first annual Halloween event.
May 18, 2023 - New and Improved Library
In 2023, we decided it was time for a more permanent library, one that was made for outside use. So we purchased an outdoor shed cabinet. On the day the new one arrived, the wind smashed open the door of the current library, putting it out of commission. It was as if the current library new it's days were numbered. That was April 3, 2023. We set a goal to have the new one out by Memorial Day weekend. We beat that goal, launching on May 18.
